We tell you what did not come back
Repair cannot recover bytes that are not in the file. If your PDF was cut short, pages are gone for good — so we count what came back against what the file says it held, and say which pages are missing rather than handing you a shorter document with a tick beside it.
Three engines, tried in order
Most damage is a broken index: the pages are still in the file and the table pointing at them is wrong. MuPDF goes first, then qpdf, which is built for nothing else. Ghostscript is held back for files the other two cannot open at all, because it rebuilds the document rather than re-indexing it.
Nothing to fix? We say so
We check the structure end to end before touching anything. If your PDF was never damaged, the report says exactly that and tells you to keep your original. A tool that reports success on a healthy file teaches you it does nothing.
How it works
Three simple steps
Most repairs take a few seconds. The work runs on our server, not in your browser, because the tools that can read a broken PDF do not exist in a browser.
Upload the damaged PDF
Drag and drop it or click to browse. Files up to 2 GB. We do not check it first — a file that fails every check is the whole reason this page exists.
We rebuild the index
The file is scanned for the objects that are still in it and a correct index is written around them. Three engines get a turn, and the report names the one that worked.
Read the report, then download
Pages recovered against pages claimed, whether the text is still selectable, and anything lost on the way. Then save the file. Close the page and it goes with you — we keep nothing.
